Life in 3D

I'm going to see my first 3D film tomorrow night.. pretty exciting stuff I know!
I've managed to evade the whole thing for a while, partly because I'm pretty sceptical of it. Butttt, I realise that I can't be sceptical without having experienced it.. I like films, a lot, I watch faaar too many, and I couldn't even begin to name my favourite one. So, y'know, it's strange to imagine the whole dimension of film changing.. I still prefer the cartoon disneys to all this new-fangled CGI stuff (ahh, 'The Princess and the Frog' was truly immense - although much, much scarier than I expected!) and I feel that stop motion is amazing.. and I remain in the same mindset about the 2D/3D debate. Plus, I've heard that the glasses are a bit uncomfy for spectacle-wearers (of which I am one). My local cinema just got the 3D thing recently as well (so it's a bit of a local craze atm!)
But, all this is about to change tomorrow night - I'm going to see Shrek; Forever After. Don't have massively high hopes about how good it will be (the first one is a classic though), but it should be a good laugh, going to go with two friends and their younger sisters :)

Also - I'm a massive novice to the whole thing but I've just got a lookville account.. anyone else on it? My name on it is 'sandbetweenyourtoes' - if you're able to find me that would be great :)

"rumours" .. "no, no, it's all true"

... is it bad that I've only just discovered Flight of the Concords? I think it really is .. Mainly due to a lack of tv channels (thank goodness for the digital switchover - not just 4 channels anymore!), but y'know, they're actually very funny indeed :)

I'm just getting my way through Series 1 and about to start on Series 2.. Although apparently there's a debate about who's better; Jemaine or Bret? Not quite sure where I stand on this - Bret because he's a bit cute, but Jemaine is just a bit funnier I think.. hrmm!

the beginning of summer '10!

Helloo!
summer 2010 has begun with lots of lovely good weather, thankfully, the struggle to find employment, unfortunately (the inability to find that is, despite the massive number of jobs i've applied for), and the departure of a few friends from home :( three have left for the whole summer (two going abroad, another going to edinburgh), which is a shame.

however.. fun times on the horizon..

15th-18th July = Latitude Festival!

It's in Suffolk, which is a pretty long drive for me, but the line-up is immense: belle & sebastian (eee! so excited!), laura marling, vampire weekend, florence and the machine, noah & the whale, mumford & sons, etcetc.

and i'll be visiting Chesire soon too hopefully :)

what does everyone else have planned for the summer?

sorry that I haven't exactly been committed to this very much of late at all, first year seeemed to go by so fast! not entirely sure where it all went.

in a bid to get up-to-date with current affairs and all that, I'm currently reading 'Globalization and its Discontents' by Joseph Stiglitz (recommended reading for politics next year). actually really readable, even though strictly speaking it's about economics. Stiglitz explains everything very well, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to :)

anyhoo - hope everyone's enjoying the good weather if they have it - and if not - just enjoying everything generally, life is grand! :)x

hitchhike!

I hitchhiked to morocco! from edinburgh! and it went really well, met some truly amazing people. for the three of us it took about 7.5days till we reached Algeciras and got the ferry to Tangiers, spent about 9days in morocco then flew back to manchester (just in time really, with all this ash cloud business) and spent 5 days in Cheshire at my boyfrizzles, then a day in skipton, yorkshire, then back to scotland! it's been a good easter. took pictures on about 5 disposable cameras but forgot to get them put onto disc, will look into this soon. most came out alright, a few were a bit mucked up and my friend, who carried the cameras, kept taking pictures of his pockets (quite cool though, because you can tell from the pockets where they were taken).
fun times!
butttt, now i've got about three weeks till end of year exams so i'm going to hit the books and get some revision done :/ bit rubbish since now i want to go travelling eeeeeverywhere! going to latitude festival this summer i think, getting ticket pretty soon! hurray!
hope all's well with everyone! x

we are the musicmakers, we are the dreamers of dreams

helloo :)

ahh, it's been a fair while since i've done this eh?
i'm not sure that much will have changed to be honest..
since i last wrote.. i'm still at edinburgh uni, still studying politics (with social policy and modern middle eastern history -mmeh for short, incase you were interested), still going to see films very often -saw alice in wonderland yesterday - aesthetically i swear it can't be beaten..visuals are immense, and as much as i like tim burton, i feel like im becoming too used to his style, it doesn't seem unpredictable/very interesting anymore :( but overall, a well decent film (to be fair, i only saw it in 2d, definitely got the feeling it was meant to excel far more in 3d, so i would advise people to go see it in that as opposed to 2d.
this term i had three essays due in, two have been done and handed in, the last one is due thurs but i want to get it done by the weekend (however - productivity, as you can see, is flailing)
emm, i don't really know what else. have i mentioned that i have a boyfrizzle these days? perhaps i have, im not sure. a couple of days ago it had been going for 5months, which is pretty cool (cooler though is that we're hitchhiking to morocco for charity over easter, should take about 7 days hopefully, and by the time we get to morocco, it'll have been 6months!).

how's it been going with you guys? much happening?
went to a westcountry themed birthday party a few nights ago - since A and i look so alike (it's plain creepy tbh) we went as romantically attached brother and sister (adorned in check shirts and flatcaps, of course).

anyhow - you guys heard of my life is average? ahh i just discovered it and im completely hooked on it! also, this may seem incredibly sad but.. only 15 minutes until postsecrets are up! i literally long for sunday, since it means postsecrets.
probably should get back to the essay, but i promise to be much more consistent in future! :)xxx

we all dance so we can let go

i still go about collecting pictures with words in them :) fills my spare minutes, or minutes that probably should be spent revising.
just ordered a whole load more kodak prints of photos - cant wait till they come! (my uni room is currently awash in little 6x4 memories, i love it! although its a bit concerning that i will begin to run out of room soon.. so here's to next years accommodation & hopefully a bit more wall space!)
3days till Christmas :) x

now that i know

s'up blogosphere?
major apologies, i havent blogged in a frickin age!

here's a bit of a brief update :)
  1. I started uni in Edinburgh! Really enjoying it
  2. I get on really well with my flatmates & i reckon im going to be sharing with them next year, which is pretty awesome.
  3. I've met a load of new people, & have, bizarrely, somehow managed to bag myself a boyfriend (mystery indeed)
  4. I'm back home for christmas now after three bloomin exams (results in february, urg.)
  5. It snowed here at home so I spent most of yesterday sledging, enjoying the whole thing, which was lovely :)
  6. I've met up with all my old friends which has been so nice, i don't think i fully realised how much i missed them till i saw them again.
  7. I accidentally bought the blue-ray disc version of 'coco before chanel' for my mums christmas, only now all the normal versions are sold out everywhere around where i live :( i doubt il be able to find a copy before christmas, & i feel really bad!

Hows it going with you guys? I'm intending that next semester will be much better planned, & i intend to incorporate blogging time into that as well :) (also need to find time at the start of the semester to do a tour of Scotland visiting all my friends at various unis!).

It's nice to be back taking it easy now, & the snow is magical! I took loads of pictures of the snow, but i left my camera cable back up in Edinburgh :(

Hope all you guys are enjoying the winter weather (& possibly snow!), or sunny weather depending on where you are in the world, & are looking forward to Christmas :)

PS. since i last blogged, i've become pretty obsessed with devendra banhart. he is the bees knees, in my wee opinion :)

top hat

i watched 'top hat' tonight & it was much, much better than i expected.. it makes me wish i could dance like fred astaire & ginger rogers.. & it was hilaaarious.
it was shown by the uni film society (which im a member of) so i got to 'help out' with the projecting (mainly getting shown how to do pretty much everything, & just looking really confused most of the time..).. was fun though :)
all's fair in love & war - but this is a revolution!

go after her.

I really do love this. I found it ages ago, & I didn't really read it at the time to be honest.. but I was going through all these pictures ive collected a while ago & came across it... & it blew my mind. It inspired me to go out & just put myself out there. Not just in regards to relationships, etc. but just in terms of life. I'm a pretty shy, reserved person that doesn't really take risks.. & I don't think my life is any better for it. It's so sad how leaving a place/ people makes you more brave to admit how you feel, but you do it half-heartedly, almost hoping that things won't work out well, because saying goodbye was already going to be painful enough.
as they say... ahh its a toughie.x

Wednesday, September 9

all good things are wild & free.

somehow, ironing ought to be made more alluring.

i mean, i like to listen to the simon mayo & mark kermode (love) bbc radio 6 podcast, where they review films. mark kermode is a complete legend, & even if i don't agree with him on some films.. his reviews are very honest & funny.
1st pic is of some graffitti in israel, pretty awesome eh? :)x
